Newsies

This past Saturday, a few friends and I (10 in total) trekked up to NYC to see Newsies on Broadway. For a handful of us, the movie version was something we watched regularly as pre-teens. We each had our favorite (I loved Jack Kelly, others favored Spot) and knew all the words to all the songs. And some of the dancing. Not gonna lie, we were super dorks. So it's no surprise that when it came to Broadway we were ready to buy tickets right away! Here's a taste of how the day went, via Instagram photos:

Now, about the show itself... it was admittedly a bit cheesy in parts (it is by Disney after all), but overall very good. Definitely worth the cost of admission, and the cost of gas and tolls even. The dancing and singing were both phenomenal, but the real star was the set. I couldn't find any video that really showed it in action, but this clip of the curtain call shows a tiny bit of it at the very end. It's hard to explain, but that mechanical piece the moves forward separates into three sections that move forward and back and rotate individually. It was used for a lot of the scenes and was a really ingenious way to get from NY streets, to buildings, to a cellar and more without truly changing out the sets. Really awesome!

So if you're a 12 year old girl at heart, and will be in NYC sometime soon (it's got a limited run), you should really consider buying a ticket. Don't be afraid to seize the day!
