Flavour Cup

Mark's mum is from England and happens to be in town for our niece and nephew's birthdays. Knowing that that World Cup would be in full swing while she was here, she planned in advance, mailing packages of all sorts of World Cup gear to Mark and his brother.

Our favorite favourite (prepare for an extra U or two) items are the Walkers Potato Crisps. They're the European version of Lays and have come out with 15 new flavours in honour of the tournament. You can vote online for your favourite flavour in what they're calling the "Walkers Flavour Cup". Given our regularly excessive behavior, it was no surprise that at the party we had for the England vs. USA match (good job on the tie USA!!) we had our own version of the Walkers Flavour Cup.

We started by printing out scorecards. Each person had to taste a chip crisp and rate it on its accuracy of taste (you know, how much it tastes like its description) and also the taste appeal.

We had 11 of the 15 flavors at our disposable: American Cheeseburger, Argentinean Flame Grilled Steak, Australian BBQ Kangaroo, Brazilian Salsa, Dutch Edam Cheese, English Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding, French Garlic Baguette, German Bratwurst Sausage, Italian Spaghetti Bolognese, Japanese Teriyaki Chicken and Spanish Chicken Paella.

The German Bratwurst Sausage narrowly edged out the English Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding for the win in the accuracy of taste category - only 7 hundredths of a point separated the two! For the taste appeal category it was another 7 hundredths of a point victory, with the Dutch Edam Cheese beating the French Garlic Baguette. Italy and Spain were the biggest losers in both categories, by a landslide.

So, have you tried any strange flavoured food items lately? Maybe some Green Bean Casserole Soda? Or Canned Dog Food Jelly Beans? Do tell.

P.S. Happy Birthday Mom!!!!!
