Progress in the Dining Room

Mark and I have been working busily to get our house more presentable since Charlotte's birthday party will be held here in just over a week. Our focus of late has been on the dining room. Here's a photo of it back when the old owner lived here, courtesy of the MLS listing:

Lovely isn't it? I'm sure it'll come as no surprise that the wallpaper came down pretty quickly, in favor of a pale blue-green paint (Behr's Valley Mist) that we've used on the entire first level of the house. Here's where we're at now:

Not the best picture since it was taken at night, but you can see the walls look a million times better. And our new light fixture is in place. I'll make sure to snag some photos that show its sunny yellow color at a later date. We put together our new dining room table and matched it up with borrowed (thanks Mandy!) Target chairs and a two-seater bench found on Craigslist, which you can only see a small peak of.

And did you spy my Ikea hack? I already had the 5x5 Expedit bookcase and wanted to use it in the dining area for storage. The wall was large enough for it, but the baseboards and heat vent got in the way of it sitting flush against the wall. So I built a platform with legs to go underneath it and then bracketed it to the wall to keep it from shifting.

We've still got loads more to do on the main level - painting in the kitchen, removing unnecessary cabinet pieces, accessorizing in the living room and dining area... not to mention a laundry list of party-related items that I want to accomplish before the 21st. Wish me luck!

Looks like it's coming along wonderfully! The table and bookcase look good together. Can't wait to see what you decide to put on the shelves and what you're gonna do with the kitchen.
