Let's Watch a Movie

Is it just me, or is Christmas one of the best times for movies? There are so many great Christmas-related movies out there. Here's a rundown of my top five:

In fifth place is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Contrary to what a couple of my friends think, the cartoon is far superior to the live action version. Far, far superior. This never was a favorite of mine as a kid, but Charlotte loves it, so it definitely makes the list this year. Besides, that Cindy Lou Who is so darn cute!

In fourth place for me is Will Ferrell in Elf. I might not be a fan of the four elf food groups (candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup), but the scene with the syrup on the spaghetti is hilarious! And seriously... "Son of a Nutcracker"!?! Just try not to laugh when Buddy says that.

My number three spot goes to Miracle on 34th Street. I like both the 1947 and 1994 versions, but have to give the nod to the remake with Richard Attenborough and his awesome potrayal of Santa. Mara Wilson does a great job as Susan too. And let's be honest here folks, a little Dylan McDermott is never a bad thing.

Next up, in second place, is my favorite holiday classic - White Christmas. This story is such a sweet one, with so many good song and dance routines. Not only a great movie, but probably my favorite ever for this era of films. If you haven't ever seen it before, make a little time this season to watch it (and add a little extra time to watch Holiday Inn too).

And my number one, no questions asked, favorite Christmas movie is Love Actually. I love the mix of storylines, all the top-name actors, the cleverness of it and just the warm, fuzzy, rom-com feeling it has. I guess it's not technically a movie centered on Christmas, but it does take place around Christmastime and that's good enough for me.

My friends and I will be watching Love Actually when we get together tonight, so I know that it's a top pick for them too, but I wonder what your favorites are. Please share in the comments.

Love Actually is not just my favorite Christmas movie, but one of my favorite movies of all time in general! All the ones you mentioned here are really good ones, too!

I recently did a post about my favorites, and one I really love is The Family Stone.

Oooh and I like The Santa Clause, too!

All good choices IMHO. We also would place Love Actually in the #1 spot. It will be playing tonight after the kids are in bed while we make our favorite cookies. Also the CD is fantastic ..we tend to leave it in the mix all year long..who says you can't listen to Christmas music in June anyway? ;-)
