Photoshop 101

I've been super pleased with the results I'm getting with my new lens, but still end up with photos that are slightly under/over-exposed and off in color. I'm going to dig into my manual a little more (thanks for the inspiration Jacqi!) for a long-term solution to the problem. In the short-term, I'm going to make good friends with Photoshop Elements 6.0.

Now, I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'll admit that Photoshop has me befuddled. I know where to find some great actions (Pioneer Woman and Coffee Shop) and even a tutorial on how to get those actions into Photoshop. And yet, I still had no clue what to do from that point.

Thank goodness for Amanda of kevinandamanda.com! She wrote a very easy to understand guide to Photoshop Layers. Now, it's specifically for Photoshop and not Photoshop Elements, but the gist is the same. Following her steps, and adding a couple extra actions of my own, I was able to convert the image on the left to the image on the right. Awesome, huh?!

In fact, I loved the result (and the photo in general) so much, that I ordered a canvas print of it from Canvas People. Right now they're running a special for a free 8x10 (or $55 off another size - I ordered 11x14). You only pay shipping. I should receive it in about 2 weeks, so check back to hear my review.

P.S. While I'm an amateur (at best) Photoshop user, I apparently am an expert in inserting links. Eight in one short post. Sheesh!
