Sunshine

Months ago I won a giveaway over at Under the Sycamore. I was super excited to have won, especially since the particular giveaway I scored was from mixedmediamama, who specializes in handmade personalized items. I thought one of her pillows was the perfect spot to showcase a new favorite quote of mine:

"Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot help but bring it to themselves". An awesome quote, right?! And it seems there's no better time than Christmas to live this sentiment. Our family made a few boxes for Operation Christmas Child and my work group gathered toys for kids in a hospital nearby. But I'm looking for more ideas for next year, when Charlotte is old enough to really get the "giving is better than receiving" concept. What ways do you bring sunshine to others?

Great quote!

Every year we do an Angel tree child. We mostly do things relating to donating toys. Toy drives, Toys for Tots, etc. Also, during the year our church donates to a food pantry, but asks the attendees to put paper grocery bags full of food behind their cars on certain Sundays. While the service is going on, they gather the bags and at the end of the day they take them to the pantry.

Some other ideas are to get together with a group of people and buy clothing, food, necessities and Christmas presents for a needy family.(let her pick out some of the things for the children's clothes or presents)
Give money to the Salvation Army (bell ringers)(let her put the money in the pail)
Baking cookies or brownies and giving them to the elderly, people in nursing homes or to neighbors

Charlotte is a very giving child, so I'm sure whatever you do, she will enjoy and get the concept fairly easily.

I love Jo's ideas - especially the one with the elderly. So many people think of children at Christmas...I want to bring some sunshine into the lives of some "old folk"!

Love that quote! And the pillow is adorable! We always did the Operation Christmas Child boxes growing up and I loved it . . my mom would take us shopping to pick out things for the children :)
