Dining Room Reveal

I've got little things left to complete here and there, but the dining room is finally decorated in a style I'm totally happy with. As such, I crossed item #11 (get a shared room decorated the way I like) crossed off my 30 Before Thirty list. Phew! Five months in the new place and I finally got an entire room done!! As a reminder, here's what it looked like when we toured the house:

And here's what it looked like after some paint (Behr's Valley Mist), a new light fixture, dining room table, and my leggy Expedit was put into place.

Some kitschy calendars, old tins and cookbooks were added to the mix and here's the space from a similar angle:

And zoomed out a bit to give you some perspective of how it fits in the house:

As you can see, the light fixture is a bright, sunny yellow. I absolutely love it!! Yellow has become the color that will be threaded throughout most of the house. It's the color of the curtains in the adjacent living room. It's the color of the slipcover on the foldout bed we recently purchased for our spare bedroom. It even appears in the vintage fabric I picked up a while back and will be using for curtains in the sunroom. Speaking of, the sunroom is what is located just beyond the doors you see. The lace panels in the windows are a little granny, but I kinda love them. And they definitely serve a purpose in terms of hiding all the junk that has currently taken refuge in that space. One room at a time, right?

Looking from the kitchen you can see just how much is crammed onto that Expedit piece. I'm not one for clutter, but organized clutter I can handle. This one piece of furniture holds Charlotte's paint supplies, her bubble toys, Oliver's bumbo chair, cereal, cookbooks, plastic utensils, tablecloths, paper napkins and tons more! I've even got some empty storage boxes, that I'm sure I'll fill soon. I've still got a few things left to tweak (ahem, the crewel picture in the row 2, column 2 opening that has yet to be hung) and a bench left to paint (still haven't decided on a color), but figured you all would overlook this in favor of photos.

Believe it or not, I'm actually closing in on having the living room done too. All that's left to do is get some art on the walls. I'm indecisive as can be though, so it may be a bit before I've found something I'm really happy with. I'll be sure to share it when I do. Sooner rather than later hopefully!

Wow! It looks great! A total transformation...I think everyone is started to get your vision for your home.
I think the yellow light fixture was the perfect touch and the bookcase looks perfect!
How about painting the bench the same color as the green boxes?

Looks great! I'm not a big fan of yellow, but the light looks great with the wall color.

Ikea cubbies rock. I can't count how many we've had over the years.

Love the bench at the table...that's the same basic feel I'm trying to accomplish.

Fantastic transformation! I too, am a fan of organized clutter and there is no other piece out there that houses it as well as the IKEA Expedit! Thanks for sharing.
